The Dawn Treader Makes Its First Big Splash!

After many months of waiting and following film updates on Skandar Keynes’ official website, fans have finally gotten their first glimpse at the next Narnia film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader!

In the new trailer, we learn the premise of the latest installment: Lucy and Edmund are staying over at their cousin Eustace’s home. One day, while in the guest room, they reenter Narnia with the help of an enchanted painting. There, they meet up with King Caspian the Tenth (formerly known as Prince Caspian) and his faithful friend, Reepicheep, a talking mouse and Narnian soldier, who are voyaging on a dragon-shaped ship in search of Seven Lords of Caspian the Ninth’s court. On their adventure, Edmund and Lucy will be tested through a myriad of adventures and will help determine the fate of the Narnian world.

While the second Narnia feature, Prince Caspian, focused primarily on battle and bloodshed, 20th Century Fox (who took over the Narnia franchise from Disney in December of 2008) seems to have reversed this trend. The trailer begins with a short reminder of the war going on in England at the time, and then takes the viewers back to Narnia, where they are met with strange and wonderful lands and creatures beyond our wildest dreams and current conceptions of CGI capabilities. Looming waves, one-legged creatures, books of incantations, and talking stars await our heroes, along with special guest appearances by original Narnia actors William Moseley, Tilda Swinton, and Anna Popplewell.

Whether or not this marketing strategy will be successful remains to be seen, but, by the looks of it, this will definitely be a film worth watching! Perhaps even the best of the year.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader won’t be in theaters until December 10, but you can view the trailer at the following link:
